Okay, here’s an attempt:

Waving the Flag – On March 2nd, 2010 a man was running back and forth on the college green of Ohio University, waving a Texas flag. The man would march across the green with the flag at his side and then rush through the green at a full run with an angry look on his face, waving the flag wildly. Those who watched were confused and disoriented. After some research, we found out that the man was probably celebrating Texas Independence Day, which was officially March 2, 1836.

Testing times – For this one, you could discuss the different meanings of the phrase “testing times,” such as Times that tests take place, periods considered to be testing times for a nation or region (i.e. using “testing times” instead of “trying times” or “hard times”)?? Just an idea, sorry it’s not a very good one…

The Way we Were – This could be about many things. I’d do a speech on the song called “The way we were,” and it’s many, many uses in film and television (linked below).

Breaking the Habit – Nail biting? Overeating? Overspending? Leaving life as a nun? (Their uniforms are called habits) Thumbsucking?
